I'm a Kansas City wedding photographer with a deep love for storytelling. I love to work with couples that want a wedding gallery that is an authentic reflection of their love for one another.
This elegant Longview Mansion wedding with Sydney and Zachary was a styled shoot from a content day that I curated. My goal with this session was to show potential couples that book with me how beautiful and intimate a venue like this can be. I chose Longview Mansion because I loved the architectural design of the house, the history of the building, the fountain in the front of the property, which is SO Kansas City. Not to mention how many different opportunities there are to create a really dynamic album/gallery.
The rooms where brides and grooms can get ready for their wedding inside the house are absolutely stunning! We loved the settees, the original woodwork, all the little design pieces that felt like we were transported to another place and time. Overall, an estate wedding in a gorgeous setting like this one is something I’ll never stop recommending future brides to consider!
The windows facing the West let in natural light that helped us create the most incredible detail photos. I was challenged to really dig into my creativity to play with all the different lighting situations in the house and it was so fun! The direct light hitting the settees in front of the fireplaces, the light leaking into the bathroom where Sydney touched up her lipstick, then when we went downstairs to the area that would be the cocktail hour room and the light that filtered in through the curtains was so wonderful. It filtered in through curtains, making it diffused and soft, perfect for portraits. And all of this was just the inside of the house! Going outside for Sydney and Zach to practice their vows (their real wedding is later this year), we decided on the West Lawn, which made the perfect setting for their intimate vow practice-exchange.
We took photos looking toward the sun, which had a beautiful horizon over Missouri’s hills and trees, and then took photos toward the mansion, and the architectural design made a very interesting and gorgeous backdrop. We then headed over to the sunken garden area, where the fountain is, and although the fountain did not have water in it yet and the garden wasn’t in bloom, the layout was still beautiful. The mansion stands tall and proud behind the garden and makes an incredible scene when all put together.
We headed back to the West Lawn, down into the open field, for the end of our photoshoot, where we indulged in the final moments of the golden hour light illuminating Sydney and Zach’s love with beautiful flecks of gold in the grass, in the glowy light through the trees, and the flecks that hit the taller blades of grass. As the sun set and we moved into golden hour, everything suddenly felt more moody and intimate. It was the perfect way to end our content day. We had so much fun! I would highly, HIGHLY recommend Longview Mansion for an engagement session, a wedding, an intimate wedding (less than 100 guests), and even a quick elopement for couples that don’t want to do a full wedding!
